Merry Christmas

Well we will be on our way to the States on Saturday! Can't wait to see everyone. But, before we head back I have two funny things to share.

First, on my way to the gym this morning and the radio was promoting becoming apart of the Guam triathlon club. Ok cool.....but then they end it with 1. Please bring your own running shoes and 2. Floaties are allowed for the swimming portion of the race. I mean really? Is there anywhere else that needs to remind you that running shoes are not provided? And floaties......

Second, there was a half eaten candy cane in my treadmill cup holder.......Do i really need to say more.
Locke really loves to read. Hopefully it will keep him entertained for 15 minutes of the 30 hours of flying we will do. =)

stinky gym

There was a water explosion at the gym a couple of days ago and it covered the entire first floor in two inches of water. they didn't know what to do so they blocked off everything with orange cones and frantically ran around trying to move the machines. It was actually pretty entertaining to watch. So I had to workout upstairs in the hot box.....It was HOT. Oh did i mention the gym is carpeted....ya...like the carpet you walk on before you go through security at the airport. Gross....even with shoes on....gross. So you can imagine how great it smells in there now. Mold growing, under damp carpet, in a warm gym.....I don't know how long i can workout there if they don't replace the carpet.

In other news, going to hit up the Macys friends and family sale today in hopes to finding Locke some clothes since he is growing soooooo much! Oh yes we have a Macys here. Did i tell you that? It's nice to have at least one department store even though it's not very big.

Got to get Clints lunch ready before he goes to work......

Christmas countdown

Only 3 weeks til we fly home for Christmas. Getting mentally prepared for the flight is on my things-to-do list. At least Clint will be on the plane with me. The flight home is completely booked meaning there is no chance of an extra seat for Locke =( oh well what are you going to do.

Lots of Christmas shopping to finish up this next week. Going to some sales tomorrow in hopes of finish up. I might try and go to Harry Potter on wed while Locke is at mothers day out. I really want to see it. I really would like to see anything! I haven't been to the movies in a loooooooooooong time. Clint has a Christmas party next Saturday for work. No babysitter, so it looks like Locke is coming with us. Should be fun seeing he won't sit down for more than 15 seconds. =0

We had a good weekend. Had a bedlam watch party at our place and then went to the beach afterwords. Now i am thinking we will order some Thai food for dinner!

Thanksgiving sunburn

It was very strange to go to the beach and get a tan before we ate Thanksgiving dinner. But, we loved it. It was a beautiful day yesterday. We hung out at the beach and ate dinner at 5pm. The food was great and fellowship was even greater! We had an awesome thanksgiving in Guam and now we can't wait to come home for Christmas in 3 weeks!

Locke helped me in the kitchen the last couple of days. We made apple pie, pumpkin pie, fudge, cookie bars, stuffing, mac and cheese, cheese ball, and maple bourbon whip cream! He loves pots and pans.....He takes them all out of the cupboard and then stands in them and then puts them all back.....He does this for hours! I'm glad he likes pots and pans as much as i do.

Clint has been surfing and paddle boarding alot. He went out for 2 hours yesterday and came back with a scratched up hand, back, and side....he says he is just "living". I'm glad he enjoys it so much.

This week i am going to start packing and figuring out what to take back home. The weather difference is going to make it tricky. We don't have any warm clothes to wear on the plane so I need to get Locke something warm to wear and i guess i need some long pants to wear too. All of our clothes are in storage in OK so we will have warm stuff once we get there but i keep forgetting that when we get off that plane it's going to be COLD! Locke only has crocs so i guess i should get him some warm shoes too or just some socks to wear with his crocs....styln!

well hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Go Cowboys on Saturday!

Thanksgiving in Guam

Sorry i haven't posted in awhile. I have been using that time to catch up on real housewives. We don't have bravo here so i have to get them from fastpass. Anyways, we have been spending lots of time on the beach the past few weeks because it has been beautiful out! Locke is learning to swim and loves riding on the paddle board with Clint. He also loves ridding with his new pals Gabby, JoJO, and Ezra. They have alot of fun on the beach together.

Clint had a little adventure with some 15 foot waves a couple of weekends ago. lets just say he went out and came right back in with a foot that looked like it was ran over with a lawn mower. There was a reason no one else was out in the water that day. The waves were unbelievable. I am glad Clint made it back in safe. His foot is a lot better.

This is the first year I will be helping prepare a Thanksgiving meal. I am use to just showing up and eating. I bought a 28lb turkey. It's in the freezer.....it's the only thing in the freezer now. We are going to have dinner with some of the neighbors. There are 3 or4 families getting together and we are all going to celebrate and be thankful together. I am excited. I will still miss being home but I am thankful for the friends we have to share with.

Ok well time to start dinner.....steak tacos!

mothers day out

So I have been looking for a mothers day out place for Locke since we got here. Just something that's once a week for 2 or 3 hours so he can be with other kids and I can be all by myself. After much research i talked to a neighbor who took her little boy to the Westin hotel kids center. I went and checked it out and it was perfect. I can take him anytime as long as i make a reservation a day ahead. I took him on Thursday from 1-4 and it couldn't have gone better.

The place is focused to Japanese tourist so there were alot of cute little Japanese kids and Locke. He stands out a little bit. Next time I will take a picture because when i came to pick him up it was snack time and about 25 kids were sitting around picnic tables, Locke's little blonde head was bobbling up down. it was precious. He liked it so much that he looked at me when i walked in, smiled, and then ran back to the play area because he did not want to leave. Cant wait to take him next week!

We have a new baby in the family!!!!! Sweet Max was born today. He is perfect. congrats to Kyle, Janelle, and Emma for the new addition to there family. I am so lucky to have a sweet nephew. We cant wait to see him at Christmas!

Tumble Time

Locke is really loving to get on top of stuff. I mean he stands on his toys, books, the bed ,couch, and really anything he can find he wants to stand on top of it. So,I took Locke to a kids Tumble, play-place on Wednesday. It was ........funish. It was a big giant room with balls, mats, and slides. It kept his interest for....like 30 minutes. Like his dad, he gets bored very easily. But it was fun for something different to do. I met a lady who has a 2 year old son and takes him to a mothers day out type program to afternoons a week. This is exactly what i have been looking for! I just want Locke to get to hangout with other kids his age on a regular basis. So we will be checking into that next week!

Not a whole lot going on here. It's been raining alot. Clint likes it though because it causes big waves for him to go surfing. Oh he got another board....Not a paddle board but a surf board. He loves it! He met some other local people who surf and has been trying to go out with them every morning "to catch some waves". I'm glad he likes it.

We met some really nice people who live in our complex and they are having there wedding reception in the front of our complex today. It looks like a big celebration! It will be fun to see how the local people throw a party and get to try some of there local foods.

Oh our Thai place opened back up last night. It's a whole new crew of people. I guess the lady who use to run it went back to Thailand. It was still really good. I am glad it's open. It's nice to have somewhere in walking distance for great Thai food.

Our Thai Resturant closed

We were driving back from picking up Clint from work the other day and realized Patataya(the neighborhood Thai restaurant) was closed! There was a sign "closed, new management". The thing is this family of like 4 people owned the joint so we aren't sure whats going on. It is awesome food though. It's just a 6 table, hole in the wall place. If you want something to drink they take it out of the fridge in the dining room. It's small, but awesome! A dude takes your order and there is a cook in the back that throws it together and it is awesome! It's always crowded. we usually have to wait half an hour or so to get our food because they cook it as you order it so you wait you have to wait your turn.

It's our go to take out place! hope it opens back up soon!!

In the mean time we checked out this other Thai place(there are allot of them, like Mexican places in OK) it was kinda scary. They also sold used DVDs and cigarettes in a see through glass shelf. The food was not so good. oh well

Locke is really taking interest to the slide outside. Clint took him on and let him go down by himself.....he came down upside down. OH well he is learning

R.I.P Carver dog

My sweet puppy dog Carver was put to sleep today. He has had lots of trouble with his heart for sometime now. He was a super dog, friend, and roommate. Clint got him for me for Christmas 5 years ago. He was the runt.....which is funny because he ended up being a pretty big guy. When he was a puppy I used to put him in my purse to go to the store. Everyone that knew Carver consider yourself lucky because he was sweetest and goofiest dog you will every meet! We will miss him lots. I am so glad I got to see him this last time we went to OK. I know he has loved running around the land and going to the pond at Kenny and Kamas. I'll miss him so much.

coming home for Christmas

We love Guam and living on the beach but I knew Clint would get homesick when Locke and I got to go Visit OK and he didn't. We weren't going to come back to the states til after May because that's when we get free tickets to come home for a visit. But, we decided we wanted to come to OK for Christmas to spend it with our families. We love and miss them so much. I don't think we thought it would be this hard to be away from them. We are blessed to have such great friends and family that we do miss them THAT much! Anyways so we will be in OK for Christmas. Clint gets to 2 weeks. Which is really just a blink of the eye with all the travel. We can't wait though! I was worried I was going to have to go a whole year without wearing fun winter clothes and boots!

It's been really nice out the last few days so Locke and i have been hitting the beach alot. A couple of little boys moved in and they are from OK too! Locke played with them on the beach yesterday. He had lots of fun. Clint has today off, well sorta, he has a lunch thing from 11-1. So hopefully we will hit the beach when he gets done. Clint has been really hitting the waves lately. This month it's really rough out and Clint is loving it. He wants to get a short board for surfing....we are looking for a used one....they are pretty expensive. I don't even know where we would put it.

gotta hit the gym and then we will watch some college football. College football comes on Sunday mornings here. It's weird to drink coffee, watch the sun come up, and watch football.

MJ

Rainy season is in full bloom. It rains everyday usually just for a little while and then the sun comes back out but the last week it has rained all day, everyday boooooo. So Locke and I have been trying to find fun things to do inside. One thing he enjoys the most is dancing. Not kidding the kid loves to dance. Especially to Michael Jackson. While we were in the states Grandma Kama let listen to some MJ and now he is hooked. I really need to video and share because it's so funny. I wonder if he gets it from me? When I was little I remember my grandparents playing a MJ video every night before bed when I stayed with them. My favorite was the thriller.....Maybe that's why I love Halloween so much. But I loved to watch MJ dance.

Anyways, I am glad Locke loves some MJ too.

Clint is off today. I think we are going to run to Tumon to get birthday presents for all the October birthdays! There are ALOT of October birthdays. We may have another one to add this October. Kyle and Janelle found out they might have baby Max at the end of October.....I am hoping for Halloween =) They probably are hoping its not =( Cant wait till he gets here though and cant wait to see him!

Church time

Since we have lived here we have been watching LifeChurch TV on Sundays. There really isn't anything that compares! Craig is amazing and on top of things, challenging people instead of making church just some routine on Sundays. We are going to continue watching Life Church but we decided to try a local Church so we can meet some good people and get Locke involved in Sunday school.

Well we tried a church Clint heard about from some people at work. It was a different experience than we were use to but it was good. Everyone was super friendly. There was a board at the back of the church that told the attendance from last week and the amount of offering given. There were around 100 people. We took Locke to the nursery. He was the only one in there so we felt pretty comfortable leaving him and it was kept super clean. The service was nice. Clint dropped the keys in the middle of the service and everyone turned around....but it was fine. All in all the people were nice but we really, really miss Life Church or Buckhead church in Atlanta! We will keep trying out different Churches in hopes for something similar but watching online is still awesome!

We are getting back on schedule this week. we have been catching up since we got back from Vacation. we already miss everyone but we are glad to be back with Clint.

trip to OK and Vegas

So other than the plane ride we had a great trip to OK. The first weekend we were there Locke stayed with gramma Kama while I went to Vegas with Annie and her gang for a bachelorette party. We had a great time. We stayed at Cesar's palace. We went to the pool, did some shopping, saw Chris Angel magic show, ate at some good restaurants, and had some fun dancing. I will say they most interesting thing that happened was when a girl that was 4'9 was pushing through the crowd with her girls and purposely pushed me out of the way. Normally i would have been like whatever you are rude but for some odd reason I pushed back.....I know not very nice of me but i didn't even thing about it and just did it. She turned around and swung a punch at me.....not kidding and then she said "I kill you B****" I just stared at her in amazement. Then I think she realized that I was 2 feet taller than her and walked off. Oh Vegas, such a classy place. Other than that we had a blast.

The next weekend was Annies wedding and festivities. It was SO much fun. I was so happy to be apart of all the wedding fun. Annies wedding was beautiful.

We had a joint birthday party for Locke and Emma at my aunt and uncles house. It was great pizza, cake, and a blow up bouncy thing! The next weekend Kama had some of her friends over in Cushing to throw a party for locke. We had a water slide, train, cake, and lots of fun. Locke had a great birthday Month to say the least!

All the rest of the time we spent with family back in forth between Cushing and Edmond. Eatting, shopping, messages, and hanging out and talking. We had a great time. oh and my sister Jamy is in hair school and I let her cut my hair off! It's short.! She did good though. If you need your hair done you should check her out at the Academy of hair design in Northpark mall before she moves to LA and is doing all the movie stars hair. She is fabulous.

Oh we went to the OSU game before we left and had so much fun. we cooked out at cam and Jancys and then went to the game for like 30 min. Locke was tired and that's as much excitement he could take. He looked handsome in is OSU gear though. After the game we went to the Lake for a couple of days. We went out on the boat and just hung out and relaxed.

Back in Guam

We are home! The plane ride back was MUCH better. I think they got my email and told everyone to be extra nice to us because it was like flying on a whole different airline! Kama came back with me. Thank God for her or i don't know what I would do sometimes. But they gave us a whole row of 3 seats together and it was awesome! I mean it is still a really long flight but it was night and day compared to the way to OK. The best part of the ride home was when Locke decided to stick his hand between the seats behind us and take the mans water cup. Kama and I looked at each other like "where did he get that"? Did someone give it to him....Then we looked and saw the man was sleeping and Locke just grabbed it. I cant believe he didn't spill it all over the guy.

Kama is here for the week! We are showing her around the island. We had a awesome Japanese lunch yesterday and decided to stay in last night because Locke has 2 teeth coming in. Thank God his teeth started coming in yesterday instead of on the plane. God was really looking out for me or knew I wouldn't be able to handle that!

As soon as I have a little more time I will post about our trip home.

Airplane ride

So before we left for adventure to OK I was praying and telling myself everything was going to be fine. That I can travel 20 hours with Locke in my lap. People will be nice and the stewardess will help me. I WAS WRONG! It was the most HORRIBLE thing I have ever done in my life. It started out ok the first leg of the trip was from Guam to Honolulu (8 hours). Locke slept most of the time and I was just uncomfortable but it wasn't bad. The second leg of the trip from Honolulu to Houston was another story. First of all I paid for an extra legroom seat. I was sat next to a very large man that took up part of my seat. He should have had to buy two seats. It was unbelievable. The steward and stewardess on this flight were young and very immature to say the least. But, they saw what was going on and snickered about it to eachother. People on the plane were coming up to me asking why they didn't do something about it because it was ridiculous. This plane ride was another 8 hours....the longest 8 hours of my life. No sleep, no food, and no drink for me for over 24 hours by the end. I do not recommend flying with a one year old. Thank God my mother in law is flying back with me or I wouldn't be going back.
OH I did send in a complaint to the airline. The refunded my extra legroom and sent me a gift certificate. They also said they would use some of my quotes for there monthly newletter. It made me feel a little better. Maybe the next mom that comes through will have it a little easier.

Birthday Shopping

Yesterday, we went shopping for Locke's birthday gifts. We didn't really know what we were looking for but we thought we would hit some toy stores......Well there really aren't any toy stores except for KB Toys and it is so overpriced it's insane. I mean like 3-4 times as much as in the states. So we went wondering around in Tumon....Clint found some nice shirts for work...other than that no presents. Finally, we went to everyones favorite....Ross. I actually said a little prayer before we went in that we would find something. We did! We hit the jackpot actually. Toy cars, books, and even a batman tank top with matching shorts! And I found cake pans and things to go on his cake....Still not sure what kind of cake I am going to make him yet.....Sweet potato......no not really that's just his favorite food.

Today we are going to watch church, workout, and hit our favorite beach Ritidian. Lots to do next week. Going to start packing and figuring out what to take home with us. Anyone have any suggestions(other than Benadryl, which we will be using) for a 21 hour flight with a one year old? Getting nervous about it!
Last weekend Clint's IPhone was captured by the wind and fell into the pool. Soooo its a gonner. Clint said you can't open Iphones that's why you take them to the Genius bar or whatever that Apple scam is called......So I walk into the kitchen to take a pic of his phone so I can put it on ebay to sell the parts and what had he done? Somehow broke it into 2 parts on his own....Hope I can still get some money for the parts.

a different part of the island

We went to the other side of the island on Saturday. It was amazing. I didn't even know that part of Guam existed. It was beautiful! Mountains, green jungle, and more beautiful beaches. It was alot like Bora Bora. Small little villages, quite, and very very different than where we live. We live in the main city Hagatna. There are malls, restaurants, and a downtown. where we went you are lucky to find a small grocery store. I actually love the remoteness. If I were going to live in Guam I would build a house in one of the small villages in between the jungle and beach.

Anyways, we took this scenic way around the island to get to a random Restaurant in the middle of nowhere. It was actually really good food and a pretty neat little place. It had a great porch right on the beach. we had a great time. The best part was you got free frozen yogurt after your meal! yum!
we went and saw Inception. We really liked it. Nice to see a movie that makes you have to think "what is going on" instead of the same boring story over and over again. I love Leo.

one month til we are home for a visit

Locke and I will be visiting OK Aug 14th-sept4th for Annie's wedding and Locke's 1st bday! Clint is staying home and working so he can save up some vacation time to go exploring around this part of the world while we are here. We really want to go to Australia, Thailand, Bali, Fiji, and Japan(sking). Anyways, hope we get to see as many of you guys as we can while we are home. Locke has grown alot in the past 3 months!

Not a whole lot going on the past week. We went to look for Crocs for Locke at the mall. Instead of finding some we witnessed the largest line for Cinnabon I have ever seen. There were at least 20 people in line the whole 2 hours we were at the mall. It was crazy. They smelled good but I would never wait in line for an hour for one....

My poor baby Carver isn't doing well. He is in Cushing living on the land. Well living in the laundry room now. His heart is really bad and we don't know how much longer he is going to make it. I hope I get to see him when i get home. I miss him so much. I wish he could be here with us. I know he would like the beach. Kama has been taking good care of him. His poor heart is just getting weaker. say a little prayer for him.

We are going to join our neighbors for lunch up on the south part of the island at place called Pirates Cove. It's supposed to be pretty cool. I will take pics and let you know.

Skin of a hotdog

I was at the gym a couple of days ago and this women approached me and asked if i would like to train with her for the IFC that is in 11 weeks. (International Form Competition....aka body building). This first thing that I thought of for some reason was the Always Sunny episode where they are watching Hulk Hogan and describe him as"Bleached blond hair but yet silken like that of a Chinese man and has skin of a hot dog". My immediate response was no....NO but thanks for asking. I could never be that dedicated and nor want to look like that.

Clint and I went on a date that evening to the Mermaid which is a greek restaurant/pub. It's no brickstore but it's really nice and they make some pretty nice beers. They have one that is pomegranate flavored...normally I would not go for fruit in the name of my beer but it was really good...Clint even like it. Anyways, its a nice little hangout with live music on the weekends.

yesterday i came home from working out and Clint and Locke were in the bedroom tearing up a magazine. Locke loves some paper and we normally keep it away from him but he and daddy decided to have some fun with it.

Clint cooked some babyback ribs on the grill for dinner. They were great. we ate them outside while we watched some 21 year olds play on a slip and slide. We saw some of the greatest tattoos I have EVER seen. I truly don't know what people are thinking sometimes with the decision of tattoos they choose. for example, tall, white, skinny eminim looking dude with .....not kidding "Chug Life" across his stomach....I really have no words. Anyways it made for some great people watching.

Guam IDs

We went and got our Guam IDs. They are actually pretty nice. They look more authentic than my old OK one. We went to the DMV which is a large warehouse with little roped off areas for different things. we had to wait in line for the paper work, then a different line to pay, and then a different line for the actual pic. It actually went allot faster than i thought.

The next morning there was a speed trap on our way to take Clint to work. by speed trap I mean an officer with a whistle that jumps out in the road and holds out his had and tells you to pull over...no joke. Clint got pulled or whistled over. He got a warning thank goodness he got his Guam id or he probably wouldn't have been so lucky.

4th of July was a nice time. We lounged around on the beach. We took a walk to the grocery store which is about a 1.5 miles away. Locke was in the baby jogger so he was cool. The way there was fine but the walk back was little harder. Clint bought a carton of beverages and asked the people at the store if he could just borrow the plastic container to carry them in and he would bring it back the next day. The lady said "sure I know your wife and baby. He is the one who likes to chew on the boxes". So Clint and i traded of carrying that all the way back. it was a good workout and both of our arms hurt the next day.

We are going on a tour of the island on Saturday with the neighbors and some of there friends. It should be fun. we have a baby backpack to throw Locke in. We will see how long that last. He is all about walking. we got him some little sandals to learn to walk in shoes. he is getting better everyday.

Well got to get the chicken in the oven. Going to have roasted chicken, potatos, and fresh green beans(4.99/lb....ouch! I'm use to .99/lb) for dinner. Oh and some homemade bread(its cheaper for me to make our bread than to buy bread here. no joke. 4 bucks for a loaf of bread....white bread. if you want wheat its like 5.99)

Happy 50th birthday to my dad July 8th! Hope you have a happy birthday.

Full moon party

My wonderful neighbor Cat asked Clint and I to come to a full moon party on the beach last Thursday night. I guess once a month on the full moon everyone has beach parties and cookouts...so we called Yumi(#1 babysitter other than Grandmas) and went.

It was a nice little gathering. They built a fire and we watched the ellipse( No, not the pre-teen movie that tricked me last time into seeing it cause the preview looked good. An actual eclipse). it was a lot of fun. Cant wait til next month. I don't dive yet but people also go night diving as part of the festivities. I think that sounds like my worst nightmare. underwater....creatures....in the dark....no thanks! ill just stand by the fire.

I don't think I have talked about our awesome caretakers of the condo. Abell and Mr. brown. They are so amazing. I mean these guys are the hardest workers. they are always working hard and making the condo better. Abell is an older Asian man and is always super smiley and Mr Brown is local and and probably in his late 30's. They always bring my package up to me when i get something in the mail. Clint doesn't like the mop i bought so he will go down and borrow there mop to clean the balcony. yesterday Abell put a mop on our floor in a closet so Clint didn't have to come down and steal his anymore. So nice. i made him some brownies today and need to take them down to him.
Locke's hair is as long as his papas now!

Weekend plans....Clint has Sunday and Monday off so we are going to cookout on the beach and watch some fireworks. well got to go to the market and grab some fish. Friday is "Fish Friday".

Rain storm

The other day Locke and I dropped Clint off at work and then went to the post office to pick up a package. It was really cloudy but didn't look like rain. We stood in line for like 10min and after we got our package the man working there said"Hope you enjoy the rain"I was like what are you talking about. We are walking towards the door and a bunch of people are just staring out and then I see that it is down pouring! I mean it was crazy rain. I wait a minute and it isn't going anywhere so I was like we have to make a run for it. But, cant really run because i am pushing locke on his like push toy. awesome. So, with everyone watching I take Locke of the toy and leave it and run him to the car and then i came back for the toy. I was wet, really wet. thank goodness i had a towel in the back of the car from the beach.

Later that day when it finally stopped raining we went to Payless, not the shoe store, but that is what the grocery stores are called here. As we are checking out the lady rings up a box of rice and was like "oh no, he did it again". Locke got ahold of the box and took a bite out of it(which he had done the week before. he is really fast he just grabs and bites). I had to laugh that she remembers him as the kid that takes bites out of boxes. Now all the boxes go in the other end of the cart!

Fancy part of town

yesterday was Clint's day off so went to Tumon to get his watch fixed.(His mom got him a new strap to go on his watch and he wanted to change it out). Tumon is the tourist area that has all the fancy hotels, shops, restaurants,etc... The mall we went to has all kinds of fun shops:burberry,Chloe, Chanel, BCBG, Tiffanys, and lots more. So while Clint was watching the guy fix his watch Locke and i decided to do some window shopping. We tried on this beautiful bag from Chloe that I adore, he checked out some burberry kids shorts and swimsuits, and i checked out some dresses at Marc Jacobs. The crazy thing was that everything was on sale for like 50% off. The mall was dead so i am assuming there isn't much business this time of year(its rainy season). Anyways, we didn't buy anything but we had lots of fun looking around. The people were friendly in the stores(probably because we are the only people they have seen in a week).

oh I went to Tiffany's and tried on this key necklace(I have been in love with the Tiffany key necklace since it came out) just for fun. then the lady just kept pulling all kinds of things out for me to try on! Then Locke started to get board so i told them i had to feed him and jetted out before they tried to sell me the whole store!

After about an hour of window shopping Clint was done and we decided to try some interesting looking Chinese restaurant. It was a buffet and was pretty tasty.

we came home made some steak tacos and margaritas and took a walk on the beach. It was nice day.

Monday, June 21, 2010

This was Clint's 1st fathers day so i did want any wife would do and made him a large breakfast:bacon, eggs, pancakes, biscuits, and lots of coffee. Then we decided to go for a walk on the beach with Locke in the baby jogger. We ran into Yeskal, momma, baby, and Danial(Yeskals husband). They started telling us how you could go use the Sheraton swimming pool if you just buy like one drink and are nice to the locals working there. So, instead of packing up and driving over to the Sheraton(its like 1.5 miles away, not far) we decided to walk. Remember no one walks anywhere so I am sure we looked insane....Clint didn't have shoes on and we were all in bathing suits. we stopped at the store and Clint borrowed my flip flops to run in and get some drinks and snacks(no way are we paying 18 bucks for a hamburger). Locke and i waited next to the ATM machine outside.
Clint came back with shrimp flavored crackers and Guam beer. This is why he is not allowed to do the grocery shopping. Really shrimp flavored crackers???!!! they were absolutely terrible but of course he and Locke liked them. The Guam beer....eww.

Anyways, so we made to the pool and ended up having a great day in the sun. Clint was nice enough to go back and get the car so Locke and I didn't have to walk back. It was hot. We cooked some steaks when we got home and watched some Bridezilla(have you seen? comes on TLC. those chicks are crazy) and went to bed.

Our Car is Here!!!!!!!!!!!

So we have been here about a month now and we rented a car for a couple of weeks and then Clint's boss let us borrow her van while she has been out of town for three weeks. We weren't sure which route to take on sending a car or buy a car here. When we decided to send our car here we were already here and it takes about 3 weeks to have a car shipped. We wanted to get here and make sure we liked it first before we just sent our car over here. Sucks we had to spend the money on a rental car but would have sucked more to have sent our car here and then decided we didn't want to be here! But, we love it of course and that's not the situation.

we are so thankful to Clint's Doc for letting us borrow her van though! Saved 2 1/2 weeks with a car rental. Thank you Kama for doing all the leg work in the states to get our car here or who knows when we would have gotten it.

we went to the port yesterday to pick it up. I was mad because they have the most amazing beach and ocean view and don't even use it. Oh well. We put insurance on it over here.....its really cheap. Its the only thing that's cheap on this island other than mangoes!

We came home and had chicken wings and margaritas(with jalapenos) Clint's new favorite thing to do. We went down to the beach and watched the sunset and attempted to keep Locke from eatting sand and shells. He is getting better.

fire drill

So Sunday morning we had planned on sleeping in (which is like 7am) but instead the fire alarm went off at 530am ! At first we were like what is going on. Then we grabbed Locke and went outside. Everyone in the whole building was hanging out in the parking lot wonder what was going on. we waited for a bit but then Clint was hungry and when Clint is hungry he needs food NOW so we packed up and went to McDonald's. when we got back the fire truck was there and said someone accidental hit the alarm.....ughh. oh well we enjoyed our coffee and egg mcmuffins. Locke went back to sleep but we just stayed up.

My neighbor Cat asked me to come get coffee and a pedicure with her and some of her friends. The coffee shop she took me to was really cool. It is at the top of a hill and looks out to the ocean. They also have these amazing crepes. next time i go i am getting one with pineapple and nutela...yum!
The pedicure was great! i needed one. All the walking on the sand is wearing my feet out!

After I got back Clint, Locke, and I went to the mango festival. It was interesting. Mango smoothies, mango salsa, mango donuts....etc We were only there for like 45 min cause it was HOT. It was fun though. We came home made some meatballs and went to bed early.

Our Date

Well Clint and i had a wonderful time on our date thursday night. Our babysitter Yumi is AWESEOME! She was great with him and even better she refolded all of Lockes clothes in his drawers perfectly. I mean it looks like someone came in with a folding board from the Gap and folded all his clothes and then perfectly placed them in his droor. hmmm maybe I need her as a nanny!

Clint and I went to the Sheraton hotel lounge first and we met a military diver. He was here for a month to teach diving. It sounds like pretty awesome job. Clint later told me to be a diver in the military is a really big deal. i don't watch enough history channel but i am learning more and more about the military everyday. Anyways we chatted with him for an hour or so.

we went to dinner at this Thai restaurant that was kind of a hole in the wall place but it was really good. The waiter asked how spicy we wanted our food and we said medium he brought it out and said "I gave you a 2 out of 10". If it was any spicier we wouldn't have been able to eat it and we like spicy food! It was a great little spot though and we will be going back soon.

Oh random but Lockes new favorite food....peanut butter! Im so proud. he is just like his momma. Love some peanut butter! It is very messy though.

Home sweet home

We have been living in guam for one month now! It went by really fast. Everyone says the time goes by super fast here because its always summer and no season change. I went to a girls night with my neighbor the other night and met some nice girls. They have lived here for around 2 years but said it went by super fast. guess we will see. I love it here. It's nice to have a beach anytime you want not just a vacation spot.....I kind of feel like i am on vacation sometimes....So much so that I will be walking on the beach with Locke and I am like"hmm a margarita sounds nice..." then i remember its like 1130am on a tuesday and i am not on vacation....it weird

Our condo is slowly but surely looking more like a home. just need some art on the wall. My dad is printing off some awesome canvases of pics we took of the island and blowing them up and sending them to us so i am super excited to get those. thanks dad!

I booked my ticket to come back to the states for annies wedding and Lockes 1st bday. we will be there aug 14th-sept 4th! Megan is flying back with me because she is the best and i will have some help with Locke on the way back! she is going to stay for like a week. we are super excited to have our first visitor!

Clint has tomorrow out and asked me out on a date....awww so sweet....so we are getting a babysitter! I'm a little nervous cause i have never had a babysitter for locke that wasn't someone i know very well. Dr. Lom has 5 kids and she uses the same lady and she is supposed to be great so we will see.

well the beach is waiting!

paddle boarding

Paddle boarding is pretty awesome. Clint was the one that really wanted one when we first got here. I figured I would be horrible at it since balance is not my strong suit but I really love it. It's a great workout and its fun.

The first I saw about paddle boarding was on Ellen. I love Ellen, thanks to Kama who got me hooked on her. She is hilarious and a really great and giving person.....Anyways, I saw the "Larry the Whale" campaign for cancer and told Kama about it and she got us some t-shirts(which I love the tshirts). Check it out. This chick paddle boarded and this whale playfully followed her for a really long time. Its pretty cool. Anyways so that's what made me interested in paddle boarding. Hopefully I will get better. Clint is really good at it. He does it every morning. I do it when Clint can watch Locke, a couple times a week.

I picked up a gas grill off Craig's list today. It works, but.......it is a little shabby...oh well We can cook our food and that's all that matters right.

We picked up some Mahi Mahi at the fish market. Time to make some dinner!

Express Care

Friday we went to visit Clint at work. His clinic is on the 2nd floor of a "mall". I say "mall" cause it's not like any mall Ive been to. It's really nice and clean. But, its more like a business complex with a couple of ice cream shops, movie theater, and grocery store. Everything else is electric, cell phone, and other service hubs.

Well when Locke and I got to the mall there was a huge line, out the door, along the wall in front of a door. I later asked Clint what that store was and come to find out it, it was the electric company and people were waiting in line to pay their bill......I was like"I have to wait in line every month to pay our electric bill?" He said Dr. Lom said people like to wait in line and pay their bills in Guam. It's something for them to do and they like to do it. They can pay them on the phone, through the mail or online but choose to do it in person.....I don't get it. I hate lines.

Anyways, Clint's clinic is really big and nice. All the girls that work the front wear pink or purple scrubs and they are all really nice. Dr. Lom is pretty awesome too. One of the most giving employers I have ever seen. She knows how to take care of her employees and there families. I wish there were more people like her.

While we waited on Clint to get off work, Locke and I did some mall walking. Or i walked and pushed his cart that Kama got him. He loves it and so did everyone else. I had 50 people stop and ask where I got that thing. I should bring some over and sell them for a profit.....So many entrepreneur opportunities here. I am always thinking of something that would do awesome here. Remember Sonic?......well I also think Buffalo Wild Wings would be a good one to.....now i just need 1/2 million dollars to start up a franchise.....any investors??? Going to make some Chinese food for dinner and Locke is ready to eat!

Momma and baby

So Locke and I take two walks on the beach everyday around the same time everyday. We have met a lady who does the same. Her name is Yeskal. She is a this little petite lady probably 4"11 its hard to say her age since she is part Asian and Asians don't age. I would go ahead and say she is like 45. Anyways, she has two dogs that run around the beach while she walks. They are the best dogs. They don't mess with anyone and just chase the fish in the water. Locke loves them. The dogs names are momma and baby. She said she found them(they had been abandoned) and one was the momma and the small one was the baby so that's just what they call them. They are two medium sized, black dogs......I have no idea what they are and I don't think she does either....."oh well" she says "as long as they aren't pit". I agree. Now for the last two weeks I meet up with Yeskal, momma, and baby and chat while Locke tries to eat seaweed and rocks. She always thinks he is hungry because he is always trying to put something in his mouth.

Yesterday after we went to the beach we went to a fish market. Not the one we walked to last time. This new one is called the CO OP and its about 3 miles away on the beach. I would walk it but not with Locke. 6 miles is a little to much time for him to be outside. So we drove. It is really big and has allot more choices then the other fish market we went to. We bought Mahi Mahi and Salmon for 7.99/lb. It was just caught yesterday, so it's fresh! I made a garbanzo bean salad with fresh tomatoes and peppers, picked up a baguette and a cherry cheesecake(it looks festive for Memorial day weekend) and that's dinner. Time to pick up Clint from work and enjoy a weekend at the beach!

The Gym.....Suns out Guns out

I would go ahead and say Guam is not known for healthy or fit people. Lots of fried food and heart disease. I know that's about anywhere these days, but its the worse I have seen other than Oklahoma. It's bad enough in Guam though that the Government gives the residence $50 a month for a gym membership in hopes they will workout....But, obviously that is not the situation. All that does is make a gym membership cost $50 a month for people like me that want to work out at the gym. Anyways, I will not pay $50 a month for a gym membership for a gym that was built and hasn't been updated since 1985. So I just went and bugged the sales dude everyday till finally I got him down to 37/month which is what I paid in ATL. Yessss....

I know there are meat heads at all gyms but wow.....WOW.....! Never seen so many dudes walking around like there arms are stuck in weight lifting positions. I cant help but to laugh out loud sometimes when I see the t-shirts with awesome sayings on them like"stand back 200ft" and "Suns out, guns out(I actually think that ones pretty funny)". Of course there are no sleeves on these shirts....I mean obviously.

The good thing is the gym is 5 min from our place and it has all the equipment i need. I still miss my LA fitness. They have a kids area but, not til 18months so I will start taking Locke with me in 9months. Its a really nice kids place and the people working it seem to really enjoy kids. Makes me feel good and hopefully Locke will make some more friends.

Well time to start cleaning up while Locke is down for a nap and then the beach! Oh we watched the LOST last night. Cant believe its over. I liked how it ended. It was a great show. If you haven't watched it start renting the seasons. But becareful it might make you want to move to a beautiful beach.

The morning veiw

Awww I love the mornings....If you know me, then you know that's when I am most alive. I like to get up before everyone else and just sip on coffee and plan my day. Now, I have this amazing view to wake up to.
Yesterday, I braved Ross again....it's always a mistake but I keep going. I just cant stand to pay $12 for hangers when I can get them at Ross for $4 so I waited in line for and hour for some hangers.....crazy?....yes. But, I just cant let Kmart win.
Locke and I did some reading and worked on his walking skills. He is getting a little more brave everyday. Clint is loving his job. He sees lots of patients and is learning so much dermatology. He has the most amazing boss. I am so glad he found such a great job that he is excited to go to everyday.
We pick up Clint everyday around 530 come home, watch the sun go down and make dinner. Locke goes to bed around 730 so then Clint and I watch alittle tv and then to bed around 9-10. We are 15 hours ahead here but we get tv shows a day later. So, we watched Modern Family last night(Thursday night).
We made friends with our neighbors Jimmy and Kat. They are super nice. They had us over for steak and strawberry shortcake Sunday night. We always seem to get blessed with super neighbors. We still miss all the ATL crew!
Well its 945am time to clean up while Locke is napping and then to the beach for us today......Yeah its Friday.

Chamorro Village

Well went to the Chamorro village last night and it was CROWDED and HOT! When we got there we walked around to see what it was all about.....There were people selling fresh fruit and veggies, handmade crafts, clothes, jewelry, and drinks. It was kinda touristy but kinda of cool because everything was really cheap.

First things first, we ate dinner. There were several little carts all with about the same stuff: chicken or beef kabobs, pancet, rice, octopus, fried chicken, and ribs. It all smelled really good. We went with chicken kabobs and rice. It was tasty and we both ate for only $8 total. Oh and Clint got some friend donut thing.....It looked nasty. And we had coconut juice to drink. It was tasty and Locke loved it.

There was lots of entertainment and music. It was getting really crowded by the time we were done eating so we decided to buy some produce and hit the road.....Oh and because LOST came on at 8. Overall it was a nice time and we got a great deal on avocados. Usually they are 1.39 for 1 and we got 4 for 2bucks! nice! Oh and we got a Japanese Palm tree. It was only $10 and it makes our place a little more homey.

Back to LOST.....so sad that Sunday is the season finale. What are we supposed to watch when its over? There is nothing even close to take its place =( R.I.P. LOST after next week.

Tuesday, May 18, 2010

The weather is always perfect here. It could be a little cooler but for the most part its fantastic. 80-90s but always a nice breeze. Locke and I go on a walk at least once a day on the beach in front of our condo. We always see something interesting. Like today we saw a couple of dudes wading out in the water with a spear so I pushed Locke out in the water(its not that deep)(oh and I have the most amazing stroller in the world, the baby jogger....thank you women of Cushing). and we went to see what they were catching. By the time we got over there one of the dudes pulled up a HUGE octopus and just swung it around his neck and was headed out of the water. I asked what they were catching and they were like "whatever we can". Today must have been a good day with that octopus cause they were excited!

Locke loves sitting in the water on the beach. He is not scared of anything! Which I guess is good.....but between he and Clint I am always keeping one eye open.

We are going to the Chamorro Village tonight. I guess there is a big festival and market there every wed night. Music, food, and fun.....Oh by the way the local people of Guam are called Chamorro. So the festival is a way to try local foods and check out local entertainment. I am excited....I like checking out different cultures and different foods so i will let you know how it goes.

Oh Locke took four steps today! Yeah he is a walking boy. He is getting so big. Everyone always said" it goes by fast"....When I wasn't sleeping and doing the teething thing i was always like "when, cause it sure doesn't seem to be going by that fast". Now, I cant believe he will be one in a couple of months. He is fantastic and he sleeping so good now. And by the way Clint is the best dad in the whole world. Really, he is awesome Locke is a blessed baby boy!

Sonic Drive in for a change

So, we are finally getting a schedule or routine which is nice. We wake up Clint goes off and paddle boards, then i work out, then we take Clint to work....yeah we actually got made fun of for taking Clint to work. Everyone here seems to have there own car and they are nice cars....People will drive brand new cars but live in a shack with dirt floors...Its crazy...they drive everywhere even if its a block away. When Locke and I went to the fish market last week they were like"wow you walked 15 min on the beach to get here"?! I was like yeah.....I like to walk and that's like a warm up.
Anyways, back to cars....So Clint's idea is to bring a sonic here. Its kinda genius.....since everyone just wants to drive around all day and show off there nice cars it would be perfect. And AND the tourist would love that it is "Americas Drive In"(I could take Locke there once a day and charge $5 for a photo with him....they love some blond headed, blue eyed babies) .......AND.......the people working there would be wearing roller skates! This is a guarantee to billions if you ask me so don't steal the idea....I am working on getting some cherry limeades and tator tots here stat!

Ross dress for less

So, we learned that the place to shop in Guam is Ross Dress for Less. Just for odds and ends like bathroom stuff, bedding, and whatever other household items you need. It's supposed to be the cheapest place.....Kmart was what we initially thought was the place to go but it is SO overpriced for all the tourist so we don't go there anymore.....anyways back to Ross.....It is a living nightmare....I mean so many people crammed into one store to buy knick knacks....I made the mistake the first time I went and took Locke, filled my cart to the top, and waited in line for like 30min to find out you can't take the cart outside of the store! So, they put my cart behind the cash wrap and I had to make 5 tips back and forth with Locke in one arm and a sack in the other! It was one of the worst days of my life. But, it is really cheap. But, with really cheap come lots of work and LOTS of patience. I will never let Clint go in there. Who knows what he would do. They get new shipments on Tuesdays and everyone is lined up at the door at 10am ready to devour that place. It's unbelievable. Sometimes they are out of carts. That's when I just walk back out and say "ill try again later".

the most beautiful beach I have ever seen

So, we went to a beach about 25min away today. By the way, people are HORRIBLE at giving directions because all the street signs have been blown away so the streets have no names. Anyways, we got a little lost but once we found it we were in heaven. You have to drive down this really steep mountain to get to this beach and once you are at the bottom and look up its like....wow...How can we ever leave this place....! If you watch lost....its kinda like that beach or the one on Jurassic Park.

We are going back tomorrow so I will remember to take my camera and take pics.

Locke loved it! Its perfect for him because he can just sit in the water and play. It's shallow for quite awhile before it gets deep. I guess this is the military beach...there were alot of military families there. I don't know how the whole island wasn't there! We didn't want to leave. Wow God really is showing us some of his beautiful creation. What a blessing it is to get to experience. Wish our friends and family were here. Hopefully, they can visit soon!

fish market

Ok so I am not good at expressing myself through words but....time to try. Thought I would do the blog thing so I could let everyone know how life was in Guam.....

Well today Locke and I took a walk on the beach to the fish market. It was this really small place with a freezer full of whatever fresh fish they had cought the day before or that day. It's really cool and not even that expensive....like 4.25lb. We got red snapper and pariot fish. A guy in there was buying pariot fish so he could deep fry it. Yuck....but I asked him if it would be anygood grilled and he said sure so we will give it a try tonight. I sure miss the Dekalb Farmers market for fish but this seems like it might workout ok.

Locke made friends with a little asian girl named Eliza. She is really cute. She is a year old. Hoping to meet other potential playmates.

Well going to clean up and then pick up Clint from work. It's the weekend....yay Clints off the next 2 days and we are going to do some exploring.
